Unhurried Pace. Uncrowded Space! August 25, 2016. Bass fishing remains good, especially for largemouth bass. These fish are in shallower water and in the weeds on most lakes. Plastics have worked the best all year for them, but you will also have success with spinnerbaits and surface baits. Smallmouth are deeper and generally around hard bottom areas that are holding crayfish. Orange or brown deeper diving crankbaits will work well for them as will crawlers and tube jigs.
