On Food Gardens | Quarter Acre Homestead

https://quarteracrehomestead.wordpress.com/on-vegetable-gardens

You might have noticed (or maybe not) that I don’t blog about growing my own vegetables (or fruits for that matter). I do have a variety of herbs stuck in among the perennials, but they’re the only thing other than honey that we can eat out of our backyard. My husband has informed me that this fact requires an explanation. The primary reasons I’m not growing my own food:. I am too busy. I work full time. I’m a new beekeeper. And I still try to have a social life. So, for the forseable future, my so-calle...

I consume a lot of media on a lot of subjects. I’m a nerd with a big stack of books and magazines on the nightstand. Most half read. Our household also receives a lot of Netflix. My recommendations for further reading and viewing:. 8220; Flow: For Love of Water. 8221; – A documentary about the world’s water crisis. You will feel like a shit for taking your tap water for granted. And you will be astounded at how many scoundrels are involved in the water shilling business worldwide. 8220;Grizzly Man”.

Lunch for the Week. January 5, 2010 · 10:00 am. The best website that I discovered in 2009 was definitely Southern Savers. It’s helped me take my couponing from a casual level up to some significant savings. I now have a serious game plan when it comes to shopping as well as a mountain of coupons. I’m saving anywhere from $75 to $150 a month on groceries. A few highlights of what I’ve learned from Jenny and the readers at SS:. 5 Even high-end and organic products have coupons and go on sale. On Money | Quarter Acre Homestead

https://quarteracrehomestead.wordpress.com/on-money

A big part of my goal in adjusting our family’s lifestyle is saving money. You always hear that saving is good, you’ll need it someday–you’ll be unable to work due to getting hit by a truck, you’ll be laid off, your house will burn down, or some similar catastrophe, such as getting old and frail, will occur. But saving money because something awful. Happen is like living your life as if it’s one long march to the grave. Is a lot easier than living day-in and day-out in survivalist mode. As the Zanders de...

Quarter Acre Farm

Our little slice of farm life, raising sheep, chickens, and produce in the Upper Rainier Beach neighborhood of Seattle. Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Pasture, Cascades in the background. I'm trying to find a moment to soak in all the wondrous, scary things we're about to embark on. However, there is much to do so a moment may be all I've got right now. So, Quarter Acre Farm comes to an end and Shepherd's Moon Farm begins. To follow our new farm, check out http:/ shepherdsmoonfarm.blogspot.com/. Waiting fo...

Sustainible Living and farming on a Quarter Acre. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Solstice Morning, Yule Part One. December 21, 2014. 7AM and my alarm goes off. There’s no rising before dawn naturally in a modern house, the sort in which we still live. Today I will be burning the candle at both ends, as it were, to keep my yule fire burning as late as possible. The dogs give me scornful looks as I slip out of bed. “What are you doing getting up? Then I said goodbye to the spirits of t...

Knitting and other crafty pursuits }. Time (the lack of). June 4, 2012. Haven’t had much time for knitting over the last few weeks, I’ve been preparing for an exam and starting a new job, so everything feels a bit up in the air. I have been knitting a pair of Mother’s Day socks (for my mother, of course) since the beginning of May. Mother’s Day is mid-May. It’s now early June. Normally I am much faster than this, but the sock is boring, and I am busy. May 19, 2012. I am studying for an exam! Which has sl...
